Christmas Quietness

A couch. A cup of coffee. A book to read. Lights twinkling on the Christmas tree. Soft music in the background. Family all around. A quiet Christmas. A blessed Christmas.

After weeks filled to overflowing with work, household responsibilities, shopping, decorating, social engagements, and everything else which constitutes our active schedule, today was a beautiful day of rest and relaxation. John and Uncle Bruce (Mom's brother who has been staying with us for the past several weeks) set up John's new croquet game in the backyard which most of us played at intervals throughout the day. Let's just say that I for one will not be winning any awards for my croquet playing, to put it quite mildly.

Some of us spent the day feasting on new books while curled up on the couch, and a few unnamed family members caught a couple winks in the process. Christmas dinner, although still delicious, was kept simple this year in an effort to give the kitchen crew a rest. After Bible Time this evening, some family members gathered to watch an old movie with glasses of eggnog in hand to end our quiet celebration.

And now I sit typing this short summary of our day, hardly able to believe another Christmas has come and gone - our third since moving to Texas. 2008 is just around the corner, waiting and ready for new discoveries to be made, new adventures to be had, new lessons to be learned, and hopefully a new deepening of our relationships with Christ.

From our home to yours, Merry Christmas!
