On the 10th day of the 7th month of each year, the Horn family joins together in happy celebration of our dear mother’s birthday. Each year I am impressed all the more deeply as I understand in a fuller sense the binding influence Mom has in our family. Mom’s devoted love is like glue; always helping us stick together in hard times. She is, as every mother should be, the heartbeat of our family.

Her unwavering love and devotion as a wife is worthy of much praise. Dad’s ever present helpmeet, she seeks to assist him wherever needed. From one time billing clerk to caregiver for our grandfather, Mom has been a living testimony of a wife furthering her husband’s vision.

Mothering her children is a clear delight of her soul. Mom has always sought to make each of her children feel well loved and special as an individual. Lunch dates, coffee breaks, playing games and simple heart-to-heart talks are just a few of the ways Mom demonstrates her love. Mom shows us by both her words and actions how very much we are loved - even if we’re not acting lovable that day.

Many women strive to be a woman in the mold of Proverbs 31. My mom already is one. She rises early and prepares lunches for her working men each day, even if sleep deprived from nights up with my grandfather. She is an incredible bargain hunter, clothing her family quite inexpensively. After a successful shopping trip, her delight is to "show-and-tell" all her finds with us - just don’t under guess when questioned about the outfit’s cost. :)

Her husband’s heart safely and securely trusts in her knowing that she seeks to do him good in every way. And, most importantly of all, she is a woman who passionately loves and fears her Lord. Dad, you were right, you certainly picked a jewel.

Happy Birthday, Mom!
